Pay it forward
Yesterday, I was coming out of the bank, and needing a cab to get back to the office. A cab pulled up right in front of me to discharge a passenger. I waited (im)patiently for the passenger to get out. I could see she was having difficulty with her credit card. After a few attempts of swiping her card, she popped out of the cab, and told the driver she needed to run and get some cash, as her card wasn’t working. I sat in the cab waiting for her to return. When she did, she looked frazzled and told the cab driver she couldn’t get any cash out, and had no money to pay the fare.
I thought to myself, fuck it, and I reached into my pocket, pulled some of my winnings from the Kentucky Derby, and paid her fare. I figured, it was only fair.
It always feels good to do the right thing…and to win the Kentucky Derby.
